7) Looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

College Magazine                                                                           Final Magazine:

During this project i have used many effects in photoshop for example editing images was one of the uses, i also edited text to make it appear bolder and also i used it for adding colour to the magazine itself. I think that during the preliminary task i didnt have much knowledge in creating a magazine but as i progressed through the course for the main task i felt more confident this is why the main task looks more like a magazine that you would buy in a shop. Unlike the college prelimunary task which doesnt look that catchy at all. I dont think that the college magazine front cover is as good as the music mazine front cover as it doesnt look professional like a magazine should. For the college magazine i didnt experiment that much with photoshop execept for the main image as i found it to look very boring and dull. To edit this image i used a sharpening filter so that the edges of all the little details would be brought out more. Then i used the burn tool this really helped the image have a more define colour to it. For the masthead of the college magazine i used a bubbley font as i thought that this would best relate to college students, to make it look more define i added a blending option to it, the blending option i added was stroke as this gave the masthead a more bold outline to help it get noticed. I also used another blending option onto the masthead and this was bevel and emboss as i felt that this gave the writing  glossy kind of tone to it. When i added the coverlines to the front of the college magazine i made them very large writing and added the blending option of stroke around the text itself. This really didnt look to good as it brought your attention of the masthead and the main image. For my final magazine i used photoshop for everything i did, firstly i used it to edit the main picture on the magazine itself. To edit this image i used the clone stamp tool and this helped get rid of some of the blemises so that when i used the burn toll they wouldnt look like dark patches on the skin. I used the burn tool to help give the skin a glow to it, so she would seem fasinating and might convince people to buy the magazine. Then i used the paint tool but i used very low opacity so that the colour would be soild, i used the paint tool to enhance the colour of the lips so she would look more like the audience that i was trying to aim it at. I also used photoshop to creat my masthead, i did this by using a bubbly font to make it bold, then i added two colours to the text of blue and pink and this was displayed as everyother colour. I made the text look even bolder by adding the same colour stroke to it form the blending options this really helped it standout. I used the same colours as the mast head to creat my coverlines and on this magazine cover compared to that college magazine cover i used smaller text as i feel that this gave the masthead and the main image a more eye catchy effect. For the college magazine i used quite a large font and all different bright colours with a big thick black outline around them, i think that this didnt make the coverlines look like coverlines i think that this made them look more like blodges on the page. I think that this really wouldnt help the selling point of the college magazine itself. I also used a shape tool as i felt that adding a different shape to the front cover will grab people's attention. Over all i think that my Final magazine is better then my college magazine as i have had more experiance now in using photoshop. I feel that my skills have developed alot during the year as i have become more confident in using photoshop itself.

6) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Thoughout this project i have used lots of technologies like Photoshop, Flickr and Blogger.

Photoshop:
I have used Photoshop alot as i used it to create the magazine itself. I have learnt alot over the project and have enhanced my knowledge about using photoshop. I edited all my images in photoshop, this really helped them standout more as they looked more proffessional. In some of my images i erased the background this helped them have a bigger depth to them to make them satndout more i did this by using the eraser tool. I like the way that with photoshop i could keep my colours the same colour instead of having different tones of one colour. I also ehanced some of the colours that where aready in the image but seemed to look a bit dull, i did this by using the burn tool, this really helped get over the bright effect that i was trying to consentrate on through out my whole magazine. Another thing i used photoshop for was to create my masthead for the magazine itself. I did this by using a bubbly font that would realte best with my target audience. Then i began changing each colour with the text tool, i also edited my masthead in bevel and embose this really helped give the text a really bolder glossy feel. Doing this really helped it satndout on the magazine font cover and through out the magazine itself.

Flickr:
I have used Flickr thoughout the project also as i found it easier to do the online analysis on and also it was alot easier to upload photographs to. This was easier as the analysis looked more apealing to read instead of in one big chunck of text. I also gained greater knowledge in using online applications then posting them straight to your blog. The only disavantage to using Flickr was that on the college computers it sometimes wouldnt work and sometimes wouldnt let you upload images.

Blogger:
Blogger was really good in helping me post all my finished products and letting me write about what i have done thoughout. Blogger had a disavantage in it is really difficult to move the images around.

I think that using these types of technology were a lot more exciting then just writing on lump of an evaluation. This also help me write more about what i have used to creat my magazine as i feel that it is presented in a more colourful way. To improve my knowledge next time i will try to use some technologies that i can find on the internet to enhance my skills in using different techniques.

5) How did you attract/address your audience?

My magazine is writen in the type of language that they would understand as they are quite young so it is simple and not too complex. To get into the mind of a teenager wasnt too difficult because i am on myself, but i used catchy lines i didnt used slang as i thought it would be a bit too parrot like of other magazines and i wanted mine to look more unique. To get over some of the words and points in my magazine i have used exclamation marks to really exagerate what is said, this would also get teenagers attention more because it is seen as a more serious statment or quote. I think that i have used language in a way that really speaks to the audience as sometimes its telling them directly. I would like my magazine to have a sort of friendly apperance to the reader as i feel that this is the best way to relate to a teenager, but also i would like to show that they can turn to the magazine for advice like with people asking the ask aggie personal questions that might have an effect on different females. Like the coverlines really get over what younge teenagers are into like fashion, bands and new celebrity gossip. I have also added the bright colours to that text to help get over the younger audience that it is aimed at. I think that my writing style is easy too understand yet till gets over the point in a sophisticated way as female teenagers tend to act more mature then their age. I have used the same colour as i have used on my front cover thoughout my magazine this really helps get over the young them as it is bright and bold. Also the way that i have shot my magazine images for my front cover really helps get over the personal feel to it as its big and catchy this also might help the magazine sell as teenagers will feel that they can relate to it. I have also shot my models in everyday relax clothing to emphasise the way that the magazine can really relate to the target audience.I like the way that i have included my masthead from the front cover of my magazine into the different sections of the magazine so that reader gets over how important it is to keep buying the magazine as it reminds them of its name. I also think that using all types of music presented in the magazine itself helps get over all different ranges of target audiences. By adding advertising such as tampons, sweets deoderants etc really helps its selling point as a potential buyer could think that they could really get a better knowledge of being a teenager. I think that the unique selling point of my magazine is the masthead as it is really bold, bright and most of all its really catchy. Also its something that could be remembered, as its a kind of play on words to do with music. I think that what makes it so noticable is the colours and the brightness of the magazine itself as it doesnt look boring its quite busy.

4) Who would be the audience for your media product?

This is the type of audience that i would like my magazine to be aimed at. This age range is between 13-15 year olds. I would also say that the main target audience for my magazine would be female as it has feminine qualities about it, i.e the colours and the style it is written in. I would explain the type of person demographically to be from a Middle class or even higher or lower depending on their income and whether they are allowed to buy magazines. Psycographically i think that they would be into all types of music. They would also would care about their appearance if they looked in magazines and seen they celebrity images. I think that they would also be very outgoing. I would class these types of females as Individualists. I chose this kind of target audience as i feel that i could relate to it and know what i would like to see in a magazine myself. Beeing at the target audience range i found it alot easier to realte the magazine features to the types of things that i liked as im really outgoing. I think that this target audience would buy this magazine as it has a range of information based around these types of younger ages and the appearance doesnt seem too mature. I think that the kind of things advertised in my magazine would be perfumes, skin creams, tampons, contraception, chocolate, fizzy drink and other things based along the lines of what younger female teenagers like and what types of things they are interested in.

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think that the company to publish my magazie will be Bauer as they are quite a Large brand. I think that adding my magazine to the brand of magazines already produced would make a wider range of target audiences and maybe they could buy into smaller magazine companies that focus on a younger target audience. I think that if i decided to be published by IPC my magazine would be more common in the type of audience i would be trying to sell to. Where as with Bauer they could introduce a smaller variety of younger aimed magazines where they could potentially sell as that company doesnt have a very young audience. Although my magazine might benefit from being published from IPC as it could make profit as i is quite unique where as Bauer doesnt publish magazine aimed at a younger target audience. Also IPC do aim at a younger target audience so this could be a big advantage in Bauer publishing as they are big rivals and Bauer could improve their sales by aiming magazines at a younger target audience. I think that my magazine could be distributed to local newsagents, supermarkets and other places like that as then it is readily avalible to any teenager that would want to buy it. Making it seel in local shops and supermarkets will really help get it noticed by the younger audience, as it would also appear cheaper than any other magazine brand.

2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I think that my magazine outlines the average teenager. I think this most links to individulists as they like all kinds of music and they are not fussy. I think that individual is the best way to describe my magazine as the images look natural and not quite like what you would see in a magazine as i didnt want to make them look 'perfect' as this would be setting out the wrong impression to younger teenagers. To be able to buy this type of magazine you wouldnt have to belong to any type of group as i feel that these images relate to all types of teenagers as it is aimed at all different types of music. I feel that this is the type of magazine were anything goes and anyone can buy it. I like the way that most of it links and has the same set theme of individuality this really helps get over that you dont have to be from a certain group or come from a certain background to buy this magazine. I think that 35% of the magazine should be advertising what teenagers like and what they would be intrested in therefore making them want to buy that particular product which promotes the product itself. I think that teenagers will like my magazine as it is not stereotypical it goes with whats in and what teenagers want to read. The font title of my magazine really relates to the way that teenagers are, it being bold, bright and bubbly. The age range for this magazine is 13-15 year olds. I feel that the images also really relate to teenagers as the models are dressed in casual everyday clothing and the image is shot up close so it creates a real personal feel to it. Also the colours used for the whole magazine theme really relate to a feminine target audience.
